“I prayed to God and asked Him to either help me with my life and give me a sign or help me kill myself.”

When Andrew arrived in prison, he never expected the Bible to hold the answers to life's biggest problems. Now, he's considering becoming a chaplain.

I wanted to kill myself while in jail. My life was messed up. I lost my kids, was addicted to meth, and I was very alone. One night, out of nowhere, I prayed to God and asked Him to either help me with my life and give me a sign or help me kill myself.

The very next day, I broke down and had a riot in my range. They transferred me to a new prison, where I was put in a cell on suicide watch. All that was in the cell to read was a Salvation Army booklet. It opened my heart to God. What I read was what I was looking for: love and happiness.

I asked the chaplain for a Bible, and I started doing Bible studies. I learned a lot from them all. They’ve been helping me ever since.

My life’s been better since Jesus came into it. I don’t feel alone – I feel loved! I have trouble reading the Bible every day, but I read all the Manga books over and over again and have learned a lot.

I’ve turned my life right around and I love it. After I’m done all the courses, I’m thinking of becoming a chaplain.

Stories like Andrew’s are only made possible by people like you. Please consider sending a prisoner Crossroads’ Bible studies. A gift of $50, $100, or $150 will begin a prisoner on a life-changing journey with Jesus. Make a donation here. Thank you for your kind generosity!

If you want to make a meaningful impact in the hearts of prisoners, you’ve found the right ministry.
